Victoria > Annual Trevor Young Memorial Run > Background

Background To Run & Fund.

Following the untimely and tragic passing of Trevor, due to a motorcycle accident, his parents, Marion & Norm felt that they needed to do something to assist motorcyclists avoid becomming victims of motorcycle related accidents.

They wanted a legacy to be dedicated to their son, and help preserve his memory, and at the same time honour that legacy by introducing an annual event, that would somehow be used to improve motorcycle awareness.

That annual event, became the Trevor Young Memorial Run, organised through the Melbourne Chapter of LONGRIDERS CMC AUSTRALIA. The memorial run would honour the memory of Trevor, as well as honouring the memory of all motorcyclists that have been killed on our roads.

Funds raised from the memorial run, would then be pooled into the Trevor Young Memorial Fund, and used to finance Advanced Rider Courses, to nominated young or older riders, to assist in rider safety, and ultimately help to avoid motorcycle related accidents.

Below is a short biography of the person, after whom the run and fund have been named:

Biography:

Trevor, The Person:

Trevor Young was the youngest of four children, with brothers, Nathan and Peter, and a sister, Jess.

He lived with his family at Boronia, and Phillip Island in Victoria, and in Townsville, Queensland, before venturing out on his own.

At 17 years of age, he moved to Sydney, NSW, found work in the computer industry, and grew in confidence and maturity. Two years later, at the end of 2005, he moved to Melbourne, where he continued working in the computer industry. He was now close to his extended family, and friends from the "old days".

Within a year, his brother, Nathan, moved from Townsville to live with him, and after renting a unit in Hawthorn for a while, they moved into a house in Frankston, in March of 2007.In June, 2007, Trevor started a new job, and turned 21. Life was going well !

Trevor, The Rider:

Trevor grew up around motorcycles, his dad being an avid rider since his youth, however, Trevor's interest didn't manifest itself until 2006, when he began to hang around the guys of LONGRIDERS CMC AUSTRALIA, and was close enough to the Phillip Island Race Track, where he attended the Superbike and Australian Grand Prix Motorcycle Races.

In August 2006, he obtained his Motorcycle Learner's Permit, and in September, bought his brother's Kawasaki EL250. A minor accident, shortly after, didn't dampen his enthusiasm at all ! He was a motorcyclist through and through, and his love of riding continued to grow, even when the following Winter hit, and he was riding from Frankston to North Melbourne for work, every day, and in all weather conditions.

On 5th of July 2007, Trevor died, doing what he loved, riding his trusty EL250 !
